"Tell us something you're good at . . . "
About 5 years ago, I attended a family yoga class with my kids. At the beginning of class, we were all arranged in an arc around the instructor. She asked us to go around the room, saying something we were good at. My response? . . . . . Logistics.

Probably to both my & my family's great fortune & great detriment (depending on who you ask), I like efficiency. I don't like to waste time or money, and I like to be able to free up both, so I can spend said time & money how I want, when I want.

(But I don 't mind splurging when worth it -- and luxury wallets are.)

I am "a glass is half empty" sort of gal. I'm critical. I look for the negative. The reasons why something won't work. I'm a quick judge of character or usefulness. Gee, I sound like a real downer . . . But my own mother has said, "Emily isn't anything if not practical." I know, I know . . . pretty boring.

Friends, in a quandary, have called upon me to help unravel a complicated carpool conundrum. My brother texts, asking about gift options for his kids' teachers. "Should we get a puppy now?" (Spoiler alert: don't get a puppy -- blog post to come). "I'm the only female partner, & my law firm wants me to head up the diversity committee -- should I do it?" "I'm trying to watch my weight -- what's a family friendly dinner my kids won't complain about?" "I don't like heating up plastic or using all those coffee pods -- is there another option?" (Yes, there is! And it makes the coffee less acidic, too!)

After such a question/answer session, a friend remarked, "You should start a blog called 'Ask Emily'." And here we are . . .

Over my 40 some-odd years, I've discovered great products, easy solutions, fun weekend family activities or vacations, recipes, and just general hacks that I've wanted to share with a larger audience. In case it might be helpful.

So here goes . . . someone wise once said, it's all logistics anyway. Or was the saying something about a "logistical nightmare?" Can't remember. Does it really matter?

Necessary disclaimer: I am a Jill of All Trades / Master of Nothing. There are millions of people who know way more than I do on any given topic, who have stronger opinions, or who have had a more valuable & worthwhile experience than I have. Everything here is MY OWN OPINION and MY OWN EXPERIENCE. I'm just trying to be helpful to someone (anyone? . . .). Take it or leave it.

Another disclaimer: I've long hesitated doing a blog. I'm not a millennial. I don't take selfies. I don't "do" social media. I don't document my life on my phone. How am I going to make my blog eye-catching & beautiful!?! I don't have the time, know-how, or desire. But I do desire to share my logistical how-tos, to help make life "better" - whatever that means? -- to have more time/energy/bandwidth to go out & take your own beautiful, Instagram-worthy shots.
